August 2016 News

Mornin’, chaps.
Let’s get right into it, shall we?

Writing

I’ve joined a writing group with a fellow at work. This has really spurred my writing output (his too). That was chief motivation for us starting the group. He and I met to share critiques last Friday. After considering and applying his recommendations, I now have, for the first time ever, a Turesia scene that is ready to send to a beta reader and/or editor (soon to be two scenes). Holy freakin Moses, right?

With a couple more meetings, I might have some helpful opinions to share on the topic of writing groups. I’ll let you know on el blogo if so.

Gaming

Boyo got Lego Marvel Avengers for PS4 for his birthday. We’ve now unlocked all 40 billion characters on it. I also got him Mario Kart and Super Smash Bros. Of the two, he prefers Smash. I do, too. It’s a good introduction to a lot of traditional Nintendo characters.

Looks like No Man’s Sky is releasing in eight days for the PS4. Whether or not you’re a gamer, if you’re a fan of sci fi you should check it out. There’s a ton of hype and I personally hope the game lives up to it.

Reading

Last month I talked crap about Brandon Sanderson’s writing. I said I’m not a fan of his style. That’s a bit vague. Truthfully, I’m just not as enthralled by his style as I am by that of certain other authors.

As expected, Elantris eventually grabbed me and intrigued me. There were sections where introspection outweighed story progress and those sections got wearisome. But regarding magic systems, and imaginative locales, Sanderson is a scholar. A paragon, I tell you!

Also, his creative writing classes are filmed and uploaded on Youtube. If you’re a writer, follow THIS link for deets on that. He’s a smart dude.

the song that is currently my alarm

Yah, I’m mentioning this again. Because right now I love this song. Voyage – Julia Seeholzer (links to Youtube). My alarm starts at about the 1:30 mark of the song. It’s a rearranged tune from Secret of Mana, played solely on piano.

I believe whatever wakes you up impacts your morning as a whole.
And your morning plays a part in your day.
And your day affects your evening.

So if you wake up to REEE! REEE! REEE! REEE! then no wonder you hate waking up, and your job, and your life, dumb ass.

Next Month

I want to reflect on this website, its origins, what it aimed for, and what it has accomplished.

See you then,

David
