October 2023 News
David why does it look so different around here? It used to look like this:
Yeah. I made some changes that I couldn't unmake.
I don't like it.
Frankly, me neither so expect it to change forthwith.
Writing
V&V: book 1
V&V seems to be doing swimmingly. I don't have much basis for comparison other than ASH, released a lifetime ago. ASH has more ratings and reviews but V&V has significantly more sales. It's almost like I'm famouser but wrote a sh!ttier book.
that's right. #1. Geoff Bezos called me personally to congratulate me |
There is actual news as well. I've made an ACX account to get the ball rolling for the audiobook. Some auditions came in but none were quite right so I built a little vocal recording booth in my attic in a fit of exasperation.
very snug and comfy and eerily silent |
While doing this and gradually succumbing to the dread of reading the entire book aloud, particularly chapter 55, I got an amazing audition. I don't know what made it stand out but I knew before I'd even finished listening that it was the one. I spoke with the producer/narrator some, made a deal, discussed pronunciations, and proposed a schedule. I'll save further details since this is all so fresh and I don't want to jinx it (I'm not superstitious, but I am a little stitious - Mitch Hedberg)). Just know that the audiobook is in progress.
I created a character sheet with a wee bit of description for the characters, and rounded up some imagery because why not. These individuals do not represent the characters, but when I'm searching for an expression or body movement, it helps sometimes to have a point of reference. Thought it might help the narrator too.
Rihanna reference for Magister Obsydia |
Takeshi Kaneshiro playing Zhuge Liang in Red Cliff (2008) reference for Torvald the Tactician |
Theodore Roosevelt reference for His Might Vretos |
Karl Urban playing Billy Butcher in The Boys if it's not obvious who this references, read the prologue |
THT: book 2
I've compiled all notes, strained them, compressed them, analyzed them. I know most every step and beat of this story from beginning until bloody end, which you'll love. I'll gradually devote more time to it as V&V's honeymoon era draws to a close.
Something Once Sacred
Last month I mentioned our brewery show. It was a good one. I sold some books there, but failed to photograph all 'em. Yes, my focus on this blog / update is bookery over music. If you want the music, come on down to bum f*ck Egypt and check it out. I will absolutely sell you a signed book for the same price as an unsigned one, then make you famous like I did these lads:
me and friend Alan, before show |
me and drummer Rusty, RIGHT before show |
me and friend James, NOT before show |
If this tantalizes you enough to trek down to Bible belt US, we have two shows this month:
October 20th at the Boathouse, Hartwell GA (come by boat if you wanna)
October 28th at Imperial, Elberton GA (Halloween Party. Bring your creepy clothes and your drinking shoes)
You'd best believe I'm bringing a pile of books to each.
David don't your bandmates get annoyed at you trying to steal the focus and make it about your book? You're the only one of the three with no microphone. Some would say that aside from gyrating for three hours while narrowly avoiding falling off stage you contribute the least, you lazy bum bassist.
No. They love me. Everyone loves me. The whole world loves me and only me and would die for me without batting an eye.
You think so?
No. That was fiction. If you're interested in more, click this link to my gritty epic fantasy Violence & Vigilance, which explores death, grief, and desperation through a comedic lens.
Next Month
Progress will've been made on the audiobook. Not sure what else, and it does little good to speculate because of our dear friend Chaos who looms ever near with jokes armed.
see you then
